First issuance: Verra issues 17,755 VCUs to VCS 3659

Verra issued 17,755 Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) to the Nesa Solar PV Grouped Project, VCS 3659, covering the monitoring period from 10 November 2021 to 31 December 2024, with vintages from 2021 to 2024 and contributions from 17 commercial and industrial solar sites in South Africa.

March 2026

Verra Technical Review commenced

On 14 March 2026, VCS 3659 entered Verra’s technical review stage, the final stage before credit issuance. The SustainCERT verification had closed with all findings resolved.

2025

SustainCERT verification audit completed

SustainCERT completed the independent verification audit covering the 2021 to 2024 monitoring period for VCS 3659. Figures reported at the time, as estimates before Verra’s review: 17,659 MWh of generation across the 26-site PAI1 and PAI2 portfolio and an estimated 18,247 tCO₂e. The final issuance on 30 September 2026 was 17,755 VCUs from 17 commercial and industrial solar sites.

Supplementary Note — Verification for Solar PV Grouped Project

Supplementary note to Notice of 1st verification of Verified Carbon Standard ("VCS") Project ID 3659

As previously published on 5 June 2025, Captive Carbon (Pty) Ltd, a Southern African based carbon offsets developer and subsidiary of Nesa Power (Pty) Ltd, intends on submitting its 1st verification for its solar PV grouped project (3659) under the VCS.

Carbon credits may be issued through the Verified Carbon Standard project 3659 for the greenhouse gas emission reductions or removals associated with Nesa Power's portfolio of small scale solar PV generation and battery storage facilities contained in the grouped project

1st Verification for Solar PV Grouped Project

Captive Carbon (Pty) Ltd, a Southern African based carbon offsets developer and subsidiary of Nesa Power (Pty) Ltd, intends on submitting its 1st verification for its solar PV grouped project (3659) under the VCS.

The project will allow the crediting of verified carbon units ("VCUs") from small scale solar PV systems in the grouped project. Each VCU represents a reduction of 1 tonne of CO2 emissions due to the displacement of coal-based electricity.

Captive Carbon invites any written or verbal comments or concerns relating to the verification of its sites under it management with the VCS.

All interested and affected parties are invited to contact our offices within 30 calendar days of this notification where we will provide formal procedures to lodge any grievances.

Validated by TÜV NORD

TÜV NORD CERT GmbH completed validation of VCS 3659 under Verra’s approved methodology for grid-connected solar projects. Validation confirmed Captive Carbon’s project design, baseline emission factor calculation, and monitoring plan.

January 2024

PAI2 crediting period begins

Project Activity Instance 2 (PAI2) crediting period opened with 12 sites totalling 4,700 kWp. Africrest Village, commissioned 19 January 2024, is the first site in this PAI.

November 2021

PAI1 crediting period begins

Project Activity Instance 1 (PAI1) crediting period opened with 14 sites totalling 4,756 kWp.
